Celebrating Books with International Read an E-Book Day
Dunedin (Friday, 12 September 2014) – It’s time to give e-books a go, if you haven’t already!
Dunedin Public Libraries will be celebrating the inaugural International Read an E-Book Day on Thursday, when they
invite you to bring in your laptops, tablets, e-readers and smartphones and try out an e-book.
Whether you are an accomplished downloader, or new to the world of electronic books, the Libraries will be opening up a
world of free books for you to read any time, any place, anywhere.
Libraries’ Events Co-ordinator Kay Mercer says, “Including e-books in our collection means we can reach all of our
customers, no matter where they live in the city and no matter where they travel to. You’re never without a book if you
have a smartphone or tablet in your pocket, and you never need to worry about returning books on time because e-books
return themselves!”
On Thursday, the Libraries will offer areas for people to sit and read their e-books, as well as ‘e-Book Central’ where
people can drop in for advice and one-to-one guidance on how to access the e-book collection and set up their devices to
download books.
“We’ll be offering spot prizes for anyone “caught” reading an e-book, or willing to give reading them a go,” Ms Mercer
says.
“We hope this will open up the wider collections of books the Library can offer for people who haven’t discovered them
yet. Our e-book collection is growing rapidly, and we’re happy to take requests from customers to purchase specific new
e-titles.”
