Palmerston North Police can now release the name of the woman who was struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle while walking across a pedestrian crossing with her partner yesterday (25 August, 2014) evening.
She was Stefanie Von Bueren, aged 32 of Switzerland. Stefanie had been living in New Zealand and was studying at a local tertiary institution.
Officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Nigel Affleck says: "We are supporting Stefanie's partner and are continuing to speak to witnesses and the driver of the vehicle to determine what factors have led to the crash.
The driver was not injured, but was very shaken by the incident. Weather conditions at the time of the crash were fine and traffic was moderate.
"Charges against the driver of the vehicle are currently under consideration," says Detective Affleck.
The death has now been referred to the Coroner.
