Make the 2015 New Zealander of the Year a Thames or Coromandel local
Thames Coromandel District Mayor Glenn Leach today challenged local residents to nominate someone to be New Zealander of
the Year.
With the nominations period officially closing on 30 September, the Mayor had no doubt the 2015 Kiwibank New Zealander
of the Year should be someone from the Thames Coromandel region.
“One of the best things about my job is I get to meet or hear people doing fantastic things for our community and for
New Zealand.
“These are people whose selflessness has had a profound effect on the lives of so many others. They’ve made New Zealand
a better place to live, yet their achievements are often unrecognised.
“I can think of no better chance for Thames and Coromandel to show New Zealand how proud we are of our own, than
nominating these special people to be New Zealander of the Year. We should show the rest of the country that our people
are New Zealand’s very best,” the Mayor said.
The New Zealander of the Year Awards is the ultimate accolade for New Zealanders, nominated by New Zealanders. Any
member of the public can nominate an individual or community organisation in the Awards programme.
In addition to the Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year, awards will also be presented to New Zealanders who have
performed with distinction in five additional award categories.
• University of Auckland Young New Zealander of the Year
• Metlifecare Senior New Zealander of the Year
• Mitre 10 Community of the Year
• Sanitarium Innovator of the Year
• Kiwibank Local Heroes Awards
Nominations for the 2015 New Zealander of the Year Awards can be made until 30th September 2014 through completing the
online nomination form or requesting an information brochure from the Awards Office.

New Zealander of the Year Awards
The annual New Zealander of the Year awards is in its sixth year. It recognises, encourages and rewards New Zealand's
most vital asset - its people. It is open to all New Zealanders and celebrates the contributions of New Zealanders from
all walks of life.
The 2015 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year will be announced by the Prime Minister at the New Zealander of the Year
Gala Awards in Auckland on 25 February.
