Works brought forward on major roundabout
Today Fulton Hogan are starting replacement of a 4m deep wastewater manhole in the Fitzherbert Street roundabout.
It was scheduled to be replaced last summer when the adjoining pipe in Ormond Road was renewed – but was postponed until
this summer due to a number of issues.
“We had thought that we wouldn’t start it until sometime in October, but as the improvement and beautification of the
roundabout is imminent we have brought that programme forward.” Says Helen Churton, Wastewater Team Leader, Gisborne
District Council.
The replacement will take up to two weeks in good weather conditions. During that time there will be some disruption to
traffic, although contractors will do their upmost to minimise delays.
“When a 4m deep hole is being dug in a major intersection some inconvenience will be unavoidable. We ask that the public
be as patient as they can be with us.”
The upgrade is part of Council’s continuing wastewater upgrade programme.
