Applications open for Disability Advisory Panel
Auckland Council is inviting applications for positions for the second term of the Disability Advisory Panel.
The panel provides advice to councillors on how council plans, policies, and strategies can impact on people with
disabilities.
Councillor Sharon Stewart, the liaison councillor for the panel, said that the interests and preferences of people with
disability can influence council decision-making. “It is important this sector of the community feels engaged and well
represented.
“In the first term, the Disability Advisory Panel made a valuable contribution to the council’s understanding of issues
people with disabilities face, and we look forward to engaging with the new panel for the second term.”
The purpose of panel is to:
• provide knowledge on issues that are important to people with disabilities in Auckland in relation to council’s
regional strategies, policies, plans and bylaws. This includes initiating and contributing to the “big picture’
conversations about Auckland’s development now and in the future
• advise the council on how to engage effectively with persons with disabilities.
Members receive a modest fee or honorarium.
Applications are open from 18 August 2014 to 31 August 2014.

Completed forms should be emailed to ACadvisorypanels@madison.co.nz or posted to Madison Recruitment Ltd, PO Box 105 675, Auckland 1143.
The council will provide the necessary assistance to support people with a disability in the application and selection
process.
Applicants will be assessed on how they demonstrate the following competencies:
1. Ability to think strategically and critically on issues and trends specific to people with disability
2. Knowledge of the main issues for people with disability
3. Sound understanding of community perspectives, dynamics, key organisations and networks
4. Experience of a governance and advisory role.
Applicants should have direct experience of what it means to live with a disability.
