Slip closes State Highway 6 near Gates of Haast
State Highway 6, from Haast township to Makarora, remains closed this morning after torrential rain in the area brought down a slip at Clarke Bluff late yesterday.
About 200 to 300 cubic metres of rock and material fell onto the highway just before 4pm, closing the road to all traffic.
The NZ Transport Agency’s Senior Network Manager Mark Pinner says our contractors have been on-site since first light this morning to begin clearing the slip.
“The slip is about 10km north of the Gates of Haast. It has brought down a number of large rocks which will take some time to clear.
