Better property info at fingertips
Council’s new user-friendly mapping service, Tairawhiti Maps, was launched this week on their website, replacing the old MapTV.
Want to know information about your property or where to find your water toby? Or maybe you want to know whether your house is in a flood zone, or where you can walk your dog?
All this, and far more, is now available to you from the comfort of your computer – as long as you have broadband.
Tairawhiti Maps makes it easier and faster for people to find information about property and land information throughout the district. This includes networked wastewater, stormwater and water services, the District Plan, flood zones, archaeological and waahi tapu sites, bus stops and routes, dog exercise areas, rubbish collection days, cycle and walkways, parks, reserves and cemeteries.
Land information team leader Mark Cockburn, who was responsible for developing the mapping part of the site, urges people to read the information and use the help guides, then just play with it.
“We’ve added the latest aerial photographs and a range of useful council information. Just give it a go. There’s nothing to break. We gained excellent feedback from user testing the system on key customers. We expect tradespeople like drainlayers, plumbers and builders will find the services information very helpful.”
The property search page is one of the most popular pages on Council’s website. It’s already received over 14,000 views so far this year. We expect views to increase as people discover the information available.
“There is so much more information now available. For instance, if you are buying a property, you can do more research on line using Tairawhiti Maps before requesting a LIM or property report. This will not replace those reports. But there will be more information available than there has been.”
“This is the first cut for Tairawhiti Maps. The next version, expected by the end of September, will include a viewer for mobile devices and further enhancements.”
