Crash at Kaipara Coast Highway
At around 6.20am this morning Police were called to a crash on the Kaipara Coast Highway.
Two cars travelling in opposite directions have collided head-on at a bend in the road, just north of Helensville.
The car travelling south had one male driver. He has serious injuries.
The car travelling north had one female driver and a female passenger. Both women also have serious injuries.
All three people have been taken by ambulance to Auckland Hospital .
No further details about the injured people are available at this stage.
A third car that was travelling north and was behind one of the cars involved swerved to avoid the crash and went into a ditch. The driver of that car is not injured.
The Waitemata Serious Crash Unit is on the scene and the road is expected to remain closed for at least another hour.
It is too soon to say how the crash was caused and that will be form part of the Serious Crash Unit investigation.
