Three community grant schemes open
Applications for funding from three community grants schemes administered by Horowhenua District Council are now open.
The Horowhenua Community Development Grant, Horowhenua Community Consultation Grant and the Creative Communities Grant invites funding applications for round one of the 2014/2015 financial year, closing at 5pm on Friday 29 August.
The Community Development Grant provides local non-profit organisations with funding for events, projects and operating costs. With $70,000 available each year, the Grant can distribute up to $45,000 during the August funding round, leaving $25,000 available for round two in February 2015.
The Community Consultation Grant provides funding to resident and ratepayers associations that are formally constituted as incorporated societies. Associations that are not incorporated can now apply for limited funding of up to $500 or to cover the costs of becoming a formally constituted society. It can distribute up to $5000 each round.
And, the Creative Communities Grant is a national scheme administrated by local government authorities on behalf of Creative New Zealand. It provides arts funding to local groups and individuals and has approximately $12,000 to distribute in each round.
Funding round one for each of the grants is open for projects that begin from October 2014 onwards. Round two, starting in January 2015, is for projects from April 2015 onwards.
Horowhenua Mayor Brendan Duffy says that these community grants provide essential funding to the non-profit sector in the District.
"Horowhenua punches well above its weight and the non-profit sector is its backbone," he said.
“We know how crucial this funding is to community organisations and it is simply a pleasure to see the positive impact that is made through these grants.”
