Police a have arrested a high risk suspect who had been wanted following a serious assault in earlier this year.
The 22-year-old gang member allegedly assaulted another man with a weapon believed to be a meat cleaver outside the Northern Wairoa Hotel in February.
Acting Whangärei/Kaipara Area Commander Inspector Justin Rogers said the Armed Offenders Squad assisted Dargaville Police in arresting the man on Monday afternoon at a Baylys Beach address. He initially tried to run off, but was soon caught without incident.
