"Traffic Warning - Waikato - Waikato"
Waikato Police are asking drivers to defer all but essential travel as the present weather system tracks through the region.
There are areas of surface flooding on SH1 through Huntly and Ngaruawahia and heavy rain has caused potholes to appear on SH2 near the Pink Pig at Maramarua and also north of Waihi.
Several cars are reported to have sustained damage. Motorists who must travel are asked to drive to the conditions and take extra care.
They should also check present road closures on the NZTA website.
