Decisions Made on Proposed District Plan
9 JULY 2014
Decisions have been released today on the Proposed District Plan by Council’s independent commissioners. As a result of
the decisions, rule changes come in to affect as from today.
The Hamilton City District Plan governs the way Hamilton looks and feels and sets the rules for future city development.
It also defines how and where the city grows and how its natural and physical resources are managed.
Mayor Julie Hardaker says “Hamilton is growing fast and the plan is about how we provide for, and enable that growth to
happen while ensuring quality and maintaining a good looking city. The plan has a good balance between rules and
flexibility.”
“A lot of time was spent developing this plan and there is a strong focus on the central city as the commercial centre
of Hamilton while providing for growth in residential and industrial areas, which support the future direction for
Hamilton.”
The Proposed District Plan development process has been open, transparent and independent and involved input from over
1500 people during the submission period.
To find out what rules have changed, the decisions will be available shortly online at www.hamilton.govt.nz
