Work continues on Tauranga’s Takitimu Drive overbridge
Motorists should expect delays when travelling on the State Highway 2A Takitimu Drive overpass this month as work to strengthen the bridge joints continues.
The NZ Transport Agency’s Bay of Plenty journey manager Nigel D’Ath said the work on the SH2 overbridge affects the central lanes, so just one lane in each direction will be open to traffic from Monday July 7.
Mr D’Ath said the work to repair bridge expansion joints at both abutments was expected to be complete in early August and motorists using the area should expect delays in the meantime.
“Motorists are urged to use alternative routes if possible, especially during peak times,” he said.
Mr D’Ath said contractors would be working six days a week to get the project completed as quickly as possible.
“We are taking advantage of the school holidays to get the majority of this work completed while there are fewer motorists on the road,” he said.
“However there will be delays at times and we would like to thank drivers in advance for their patience while these important works are completed.”
