Kaitaia Police have arrested and charged an 18-year-old Kaitaia woman with the aggravated robbery of Kaitaia's Coast to
Coast Bakery.
They have also arrested a 21-year-old woman and charged her with receiving stolen property. Both women will appear in
the Kaitaia District Court.
Detective Sergeant Beatson of the Kaitaia CIB said police had had an overwhelming response to the call for help to catch
the offenders.
“We have been swamped with suspect nominations, and information identifying the two women we believed to be involved in
the robbery. As a result of the information these arrests have been made and the women charged”.
“Without the public's help we wouldn’t have been able to bring this to such a speedy resolution,” Mr Beatson said.
“Our administrators tell us that this is the greatest information flow and biggest response to the Northland Police
Facebook page since it was started”.
Mr Beatson said Crimestoppers was also flooded with information as a result of the media and social media exposure given
to this case.
“This is an excellent example of the community taking responsibility for the community and not tolerating violence or
crime. We can’t thank them enough – those who came forward and accepted the challenge to help us. We’d love them, in the
future, to take a similar interest in stopping crime and holding those accountable who are responsible for it”.
Mr Beatson encouraged those in the Far North communities to check the Northland Police Facebook page, as Far North faces
often feature on it and it is a quick way for police to disseminate and receive information quickly.
