Splash For No Cash is back
Children enrolled in swimming lessons at the Levin Aquatic Centre for Term 3 will also be able to swim at the pool during the entire term for free.
The Centre is running its Splash For No Cash annual promotion, open to all Horowhenua children whose parents or caregivers sign up and pay in full for swimming lessons in Term 3.
Aquatics Horowhenua Programmes and Events Supervisor Rachael Miller says that drowning affects all New Zealanders irrespective of age, ethnicity, gender or social economic status.
"It is consistently the third-highest cause of unintentional death in New Zealand. Knowing the basics of will enhance your child’s experiences in the water and make a big difference towards them ultimately learning to swim confidently and competently," she said.
"If schools can no longer afford to maintain pools and teach kids how to swim, where does responsibility for learning to keep oneself afloat and, ideally, swim at least 200 metres, fall? As usual, the answer is with parents, whose pockets are, of course, under assault by children's many other demands. Swimming lessons might seem a luxury, but they are not – or not if parents want their youngsters to have a quintessential Kiwi summer at the beach and in local rivers or pools, they then are a necessity."
Ms Miller says the Splash for no Cash promotion allows children to visit the pool and swim as much as they like during Term 3, however to be eligible then the lessons must be paid for in full.
"This will give your swimmer extra opportunity during the week or on weekends to come in and practice what they have learnt in lessons that week, and of course recreationally swim and have fun at the pool."
Ms Miller says that lessons are available for swimmers of all ages and abilities, with Term 3 lessons starting on Monday 21 July and running for nine weeks.
"All lessons are reasonably priced, and to make things even more affordable if you pay in full before the end of week one you receive a ten dollar discount," she said.
