45 South Television Scoops Top Award
45 South Television Inc. has won the Supreme Award at the 2014 Trustpower Waitaki District Community Awards.
The Awards were announced and presented tonight (Monday 30 June) at a function at the Oamaru Opera House.
For winning the Supreme Award, 45 South Television received a framed certificate, a trophy and $1,500 prize money. 45 South Television now has the opportunity to represent the district at the 2014 Trustpower National Community Awards, which are being held in the Wellington region in March 2015.
In total, Trustpower has given away over $5,000 to various community groups through tonight’s Awards.
Trustpower Community Relations Representative Emily Beaton says
“45 South Television is a television station run completely by volunteers who bring local faces, events and news into local lounges.
Volunteers give up their free time on weekends, evenings and holidays to capture the many events and activities in the Waitaki District and beyond. As well as broadcasting these events to viewers; some who are housebound, elderly or unable to attend the events, they bring a local face with local news and weather to households five nights a week.
In covering these local events, this organisation is creating a treasure trove of archives for the town which will be useful to draw on in the future.
It is neat to see that this television station has integrated itself into the community and we are all looking forward to seeing what they will bring to the 2014 National Community Awards,” says Miss Beaton.
