Hawke’s Bay Trails - Section Closure & New Bridge Safety
Two sections of the Hawke’s Bay Trails are temporarily interrupted – one for farm operations and the other for bridge safety upgrades.
A section of the Hawke’s Bay Trails near Bay View will be temporarily closed to the public during lambing season from 20 July to 1 September.
A standing agreement with Landcorp, the Department of Conservation and Hawke’s Bay Regional Council means that the loop track around the base and over Rorookuri Hill within the Landcorp farm by Onehunga Road, Bay View will be closed during lambing.
Signs and barriers will be in place at entry points to this section of the trail. Cyclists and pedestrians can still get through by using the trail on the eastern side of Rorookuri Hill linking Onehunga Road, the wetlands, the working farm and HB Airport.
Meanwhile the installation of new handrails on both sides of the walkway of the Tukituki Bridge to Haumoana (Black Bridge) is almost completed and will give added safety to cyclists and pedestrians. When the installation is completed, the uneven concrete slabs will be replaced with a better surface. This will take another two to three weeks depending on weather.
