On 29th of June police were alerted to a hunter who is over due from a 4 day hunting trip in the Wanganui River catchment near Harihari.
The local 35yr old Hokitika man went into the area on Tuesday the 24th and Intended to travel to Hunters Hut at the head of the Wanganui River for a four day hunting trip and was expected to return on Friday 27th.
A family member waited on Friday for his return but he failed to show up.
He is very experienced in the outdoors and appears to be well equipped and has a Personal Locator Beacon. .
There was heavy rain In the area during last week and rivers are up.
Police have launched a search of the area with the use of tracking dog , kayaks, helicopter and ground searchers.
