Marlborough’s new events calendar: Follow-ME

Marlborough’s new events calendar Follow-ME is up and running.

The calendar has information about what’s on and what’s coming up in Marlborough.

Council’s events coordinator Susie Witehira will manage the calendar which will be hosted on the Destination Marlborough website but with its own independent identity and profile.

“Our aim is to see Follow-ME become the ‘go to’ place for everyone looking for information about Marlborough; it promotes the region to the outside, it shows what’s on and also has all the information about actually getting here and what to do here,” she said.

“The website is visually very attractive but also incredibly accessible; we’ve made it very easy to quickly find the kind of information that people actually want,” she said.

Susie says the calendar is designed to be the central information base for event planners and the public, including the visitor sector, with sections on transport and accommodation as well as events.

“It’s essential that it catches the attention of the tourist traffic but it’s also designed to be the authoritative guide for everyone who needs to know what’s happening in Marlborough,” says Susie.

All the events (not including the conferences) on the website will be open to the public.

It’s easy to see what’s coming up in the week and weekend ahead as well the coming month.

Information on sporting events of regional, national or international significance being held in Marlborough will be there.

The website is also where event planners can find Marlborough’s Event Toolkit – a guide to creating and running successful festivals and events.

Marlborough Mayor Alistair Sowman says the event calendar is one of the key elements in the Council’s Regional Events Strategy which aims to encourage a wide range of events for Marlborough, spread over the calendar year.

“Obviously we cannot dictate when events will be held but Susie and Follow-ME is there to help everyone pick the best timing for their activities. With the bigger events in particular planned many months in advance it’s going to be useful to be able to access this long-range calendar and I hope it’s going to enable event organisers to make good decisions,” he said
