Planting at Pakowhai next month for Honda TreeFund
People who regularly walk or exercise their dogs in Pakowhai Country Park are invited to join in a planting morning at
the park on 20 July thanks to the Honda TreeFund.
A cheque for $7896.00 from the Honda TreeFund was recently presented by Neil Dunn, Agency Manager of Hawke’s Bay Honda
to HBRC Deputy Chairman Christine Scott.
Some of this will purchase native trees to be added to a bank by the Raupare Stream at the southern end of the park.
Honda Hawke’s Bay will be inviting their customers to the planting from 10am -12 noon on Sunday 20 July. Regular park
users are also welcome to join in. Cancellation will only be due to really wet weather and will be posted on HBRC’s
Facebook page.
“There are plenty of people who love this park and would enjoy adding their own personal stamp on it by way of a tree or
two, so they are welcome to join with the Honda customers to enhance the park,” says HBRC’s Manager Open Space
Development Stephen Cave.
Hawke’s Bay residents who purchase a new Honda vehicle help contribute to the TreeFund. The Honda TreeFund has helped
add thousands of trees to the Hawke’s Bay landscape since 2004.
Initially the planting development was focused on Tutira Country Park and the areas there are now well established. In
recent years Pakowhai Country Park has had more native wetlands and bush added, and this year the Honda TreeFund
donation has also gone towards plants for Poukawa Stream by Pekapeka Wetland.
“I took a stroll through Pakowhai Regional Park recently and was delighted to see the growth of our past Honda tree
plantings. I also inspected the area for this year’s planting and future users of the park will have a delightful vista
as they look along the banks of the Raupare,” says Neil Dunn, Agency Manager, Hawkes Bay Honda.
“Thank you to all our Hawke's Bay new Honda buyers for the part you have played in making this donation possible.”
Nationally, Honda New Zealand has funded the planting of over 570,000 new native trees since the programme began. Ten
native trees are funded for every new car that Honda New Zealand sells, with another three funded by each local Honda
agent.
