State Highway 1 detour north of Christchurch closes
Flooding has now closed the State Highway 1 detour north of Christchurch.
State Highway 1 was closed this morning because of flooding and an inland detour put in place. However, continual rain and flooding has now closed the detour route.
The NZ Transport Agency’s Performance Manager Pete Connors says with no alternative detour route, SH1 is being re-opened through the area to four-wheel drives and freight vehicles only.
“The flooding is at Salt Water Creek which is subject to tidal flows. High tide is at2.30pm and we will review the closure again at 3pm.”
He says the Transport Agency apologises for any inconvenience caused by the closure.
