Police Seek Stolen Tractor
Police are searching around Orini after a pursuit ended with a car crashing in the area overnight. At about 11pm lastnight police were alerted to a Nissan Skyline car seen driving dangerously in Te Aroha. A patrol found the car but it failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.
The pursuit went across the Hauraki plains and ended in Orini when the car crashed into a paddock and the two occupants fled. Despite a police dog tracking in the area the offenders were not found. There was no indication the occupants were injured and the car sustained only minor damage.
“This morning a farmer who lives nearby has reported his John Deere tractor stolen when it was noticed missing at 7.00am. The tractor is coloured green, it has a front end loading device attached and a fertiliser spreader fixed to the back. Police have had several patrols searching the wider Orini area looking for the tractor. We suspect the occupants from the car have stolen the tractor and we appeal to the public to report any sightings of it to police. The tractor is not registered for the road and could be a hazard so police are urging drivers anywhere in this area to be careful. If the tractor is sighted people should call 111 in an emergency or 07 8586200 if it is not an emergency.
Enquiries are also continuing to establish if the Nissan was stolen or not and would like to hear from anyone in Te Aroha who could assist with information about this car.”
