Pedestrian killed in Levin
An elderly woman has died after being hit by a light truck off Bath Street in the Levin Township earlier this afternoon.
The collision occurred at approximately 12:45pm when the truck was reversing into a service alleyway and has struck the woman, aged 74, who was walking behind the vehicle on a footpath.
First aid was administered and the woman was transported by ambulance to a local helipad to be airlifted to Wellington Hospital, however she died mid-flight.
The Serious Crash Unit is continuing to investigate and officers are speaking to the truck driver and other members of the public who witnessed the crash.
Police will not release the woman’s name until formal identification has been completed and her next of kin has been informed.
