Barry Harris Resigns to Focus on Directorate Roles

Hamilton City Council Ceo, Barry Harris, Resigns to Focus on Directorate Roles

9 JUNE 2014

Hamilton City Council Chief Executive Barry Harris has resigned with a leaving date of Friday 17 October 2014.

Mr Harris leaves after three and a half years at Hamilton City Council.

Mr Harris is on the Boards of several organisations, including AgResearch and DairyNZ, and following a career in local government and the private sector, Mr Harris has decided the time is right to focus on his directorship roles.

Mayor Julie Hardaker said that Barry has been an outstanding Chief Executive. “He brought with him years of experience in local government, but importantly commercial experience from the private sector and that combination has proved invaluable”.

“Barry and I have a strong working relationship and made a great team. I respect him immensely for his strategic and commercial acumen and political incites. The Councillors will be sad to see him go but wish him all the best”.

Mayor Hardaker will be working with the Council over the next few weeks to start the recruitment process. “It is an exciting time for Hamilton as the new council refocuses the priorities and we meet the challenges for one of New Zealand’s fastest growing cities”.
