Three dead in Ashburton Crash

Three dead in Ashburton Crash
Sunday, 1 June 2014 - 1:30pm
On Saturday 31 May 2014 at 15.55 hrs a two car crash occurred at the stop sign controlled intersection of Thompson’s Track and Somerton Road Rakaia.
As a result of this collision three persons lost their lives and two more are in hospital receiving treatment for injuries received. One of the drivers is in a serious condition.
The Police have notified next of kin and the details of the deceased can be released.
The deceased persons are:
>Sally Vanessa SUMMERFIELD age 49
>Ella Yasmin SUMMERFIELD age 12
>Abigail Ann HONE age 12
All of Christchurch.
The Hospitalised drivers of both vehicles have yet to be formally interviewed by Police.
Road safety message:
All drivers on any road need to have a heightened situational awareness be aware of the environment you are driving in, be alert for stop sign or give way controlled intersections especially on unfamiliar rural roads, wear your seat belt and keep your speed down.
Mid Canterbury Police greatly appreciate the assistance provided by those passing members of the public who assisted emergency services at the scene.
