Family Fun Day a Success at Sports Park
What a fantastic weekend at the Mercury Bay Multi-Sport Park Fun Day. Thanks to all the sports teams, coaches, organisers and volunteers who came to our family fun day that was held at the Mercury Bay Sports Park last weekend.
"The day was a chance for everyone to come and visit the Sports Park and see it in use," says Sports Park coordinator Sue Costello.
"We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along, as a player, a coach, a volunteer or just as a member of the public," says Mercury Bay Community Board Chairperson Paul Kelly.
"It was fantastic to see so many of our community enjoying the facility on the day and it is a hugely positive milestone in the history of the Sports Park," says Mr Kelly. "We are looking forward to many more".
Several hundred people turned up on the day to see demonstration matches involving netball, rugby, rugby league and soccer, with teams coming from all around the Coromandel.
Also in attendance were Mayor Glenn Leach, Deputy Mayor Peter French, our Chief Executive David Hammond, Mercury Bay Community Board Chairperson Paul Kelly and council staff.
There were also fire displays, radio interviews, youth services an amazing race, Hot Water Beach lifesavers parking and directing cars, crafty stalls, face-painting, climbing walls and, of course, the obligatory bouncy castle - and much more.
"This was a real family and community focused event and an opportunity for everyone to come and learn about the sports they could get involved with at the park and to see what our facility has to offer," says Sue Costello.
Junior rugby, soccer and netball are currently being played at the Sports Park. It will also be the base for the Goldrush Rally of New Zealand in August.
