Last Chance to Thank Far North Voluntary Groups
With entries for the Trustpower Far North Community Awards closing at 5pm on Friday 6 June, locals have just a few more
days to ensure their favourite voluntary groups are part of the Far North’s biggest celebration of volunteers.
The Trustpower Far North Community Awards, run in partnership with the Far North District Council, recognise and reward
voluntary groups and organisations for the outstanding contribution they make to their community.
The Trustpower Far North Community Awards is now in its sixth year, and this year there is more than $5000 up for grabs
at this year’s Awards.
Trustpower Community Relations Representative Jess Somerville says the services provided by volunteers help individuals,
families and the community to address local needs and problems.
“Each year through the Trustpower Far North Community Awards we are always blown away by the unwavering resolve of
volunteers and by the diversity of what they do for the community. These Awards are a great opportunity for the ‘little
guys’ to be recognised for the hard work they do behind the scenes as they address the incredibly complex and
increasingly urgent challenges their communities face.
“These contributions can be anything from the behind the scenes work that often goes unnoticed to the more familiar
fundraisers actioned by volunteers to the dedicated coach on the side line. All contribute to the community spirit
within the Far North, and help build a stronger and more resilient community.
“Now you have the chance to say ‘thank you’ to these volunteers who work hard to improve the community – just by filling
out an entry form. It takes just a few minutes of your time to enter a group but it will make a real difference to the
volunteers you are recognising,” says Miss Somerville.
Anyone can enter a group or organisation for the Trustpower Far North Community Awards – voluntary groups and
organisations can even enter themselves. But act now because entries close on Friday 6 June.
The Awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure,
and Educational and Child/Youth Development. The category winners receive $500 and runners up take home $250. The
Overall Winner receives $1,500 and the opportunity to attend the 2014 National Community Awards. Last year’s Supreme
Winner was Ki-o-rahi Akotanga Iho Incorporated.

The regional Trustpower Far North Community Awards will be presented at a function at Te Ahu on Monday 28 July.
