Regional Public Transport Plan submissions hearings this week
Submissions on the draft Regional Public Transport Plan - Greater Wellington Regional Council’s blueprint for delivering
the best public transport services - will be heard this week.
The Council received more than 630 submissions on the draft transport plan. On Tuesday 27 May a sub-committee of Council
will hear submitters on both the draft transport plan and the Annual Plan. Over the following two days, 28-29 May, it
will hear more submissions on the draft transport plan.
A draft hearings schedule is attached. Please note that this schedule could still change. The hearings will be held in
the Council Chamber, Greater Wellington Regional Council, 2 Fryatt Quay, Pipitea.

As well as hearing oral submissions, the committee will consider all the feedback people have given on the draft plan.
The committee will weigh issues and concerns raised by submitters against the goals of the draft Regional Public
Transport Plan. The plan aims to make public transport more convenient and attractive for more people by making some
major improvements to the network over the next six to 10 years.
The draft public transport plan proposes a number of improvements such as:
• A new Wellington City bus network that gives more people access to high frequency bus services, makes bus
services easier to use and provides evening and weekend services to more suburbs.
• More frequent rail services from inner hubs such as Porirua and Waterloo and faster and more reliable services
on longer distance lines such as Wairarapa, Upper Hutt and Kapiti
• A new ticketing and fares system will enable people to use one card for all their public transport travel
throughout the region.
• Options for renewing Wellington’s bus fleet with new generation diesel buses, hybrids or electric buses.
Feedback on the bus fleet options will be considered by both the committee and a workshop of all Regional Councillors in
early June.
The Council will be considering submissions and expects to adopt a final plan by the end of June.
