Firearms charges are being considered against a man who was arrested by Porirua Police on Saturday evening.
Police were called to the Pauatahanui Inlet after shots were heard.
A man was found duck shooting in a wildlife reserve, near a residential area.
Hunters are reminded to hunt only in areas where hunting is permitted, abide by the conditions of their firearms licences and make safety their first priority.
"It is crucial that hunters follow the law and safety rules" says Senior Sergeant Simon King of the Wellington Police. "Police will treat any breaches extremely seriously."
