Southland rivers likely to remain high during the weekend
Southland’s rivers are reacting quickly to rainfall, due to already saturated soils.
Environment Southland activated its flood warning status on Wednesday morning (21/5), which monitors rivers and rainfall
throughout Southland.
After recent rainfall many river levels have been higher than usual during the past day.
The Metservice has forecast a series of active fronts to pass over Fiordland and Southland during Friday to Sunday,
bringing heavy rain. If this occurs we advise caution around rivers and low lying areas during the weekend.
Environment Southland flood duty officers will continue to monitor the river levels and the latest rainfall and
river-level information will be available online at www.es.govt.nz/rivers-and-rainfall or via the Environmental Data Information (EDI) service telephone line: 03 211 5010.
