Baby in critical condition following car crash
A baby is in critical condition in hospital following a car crash on State Highway 4 near Kopaki in the Waitomo District.
The crash happened at about 8:30 this morning when a car with four occupants including the baby crashed into a bank.
The baby was taken to hospital by a passing motorist and the other three occupants have moderate injuries.
The southbound lane of state highway 4 is closed while the serious crash unit investigates the scene.
Traffic control is in place and traffic is flowing freely.
