Fatal Crash Dunedin

Dunedin Police are currently examining the scene of a fatal crash that
has claimed 2 lives. The crash occurred in the early hours of Sunday
the 18th of May 2014.
At approximately 3.15am a Honda Integra car with 5 occupants was
travelling south on the Southern Motorway, State Highway 1 near Green
Island. The vehicle has lost control while negotiating a slight right
hand bend and has spun several times before it has struck a light pole
and a tree. It is believed that 3 of the occupants were thrown from the
vehicle.
2 of the occupants of the vehicle, a male aged in his early twenties and a
female aged in her late teens died at the scene. The other occupants of
the vehicle were taken to Dunedin Public Hospital. A female in her
teens is in a critical condition while the other two occupants, a male
aged in his 20s and a female aged 16 suffered moderate to serious
injuries.
The crash scene was attended by Fire, Police and Ambulance personnel.
The Southern Motorway is currently closed to southbound traffic from
Green Island and diversions are in place. It is anticipated that the
Motorway will be closed for most of the morning.
An investigation will continue into the cause of the crash and Police are
investigating whether alcohol or speed were factors.
Police will not be releasing the names of the deceased’s until next of kin
have been notified.
