Death at Oil Drilling Derrick in Taranaki
At 8.15am this morning Ambulance, Fire and Police were called to an incident at the Mangakewa E Wellsite near Tikorangi Road East, Waitara where an employee had collapsed.
The incident did occur on the Oil Drilling Derrick approximately 40 metres off the ground however did not involve a fall.
Attempts to resuscitate the 39 years old initial by his co-workers and then Ambulance staff unfortunately were unsuccessful.
The scene was attended by Police and Dept of Labour investigators and circumstances surrounding the death are been investigating including the possibility of resulting from a medical condition. I would urge against speculation at this stage into the cause of death due to the place it occurred.
The matter has been refered to the Coroner.
