Christchurch Police have arrested a man in connection with an alleged assault on a sex worker in the central city early on Friday morning.
Detective Sergeant Grant Collins says as a result of information received from a member of the public, Police executed a search warrant at a Phillipstown address today and arrested a 20-year old Christchurch man.
The man has been charged with assault with intent to commit sexual violation, and will appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow [Tuesday 6 May].
The incident occurred at around 2.15am on Friday [2 May] when a sex worker was assaulted by a man in Cambridge Green, a small park near the intersection of Barbadoes and Salisbury Streets.
Detective Sergeant Collins says Police are grateful for the assistance of the public and media, after photographs of a person of interest were published during the weekend.
