Hunter shot on first day of duck hunting season
At about 11.20 am an ambulance was called to north of Masterton in the Wairarapa. Police were also disptached and a 44 year old male was found to have been shot in the elbow with a shotgun.
This has caused significant trauma to this area of his arm.
He was taken to Wellington Hospital by the Palmerston North rescue helicopter.
Police are still investigating and interviewing witnesses.
Although the circumstances of this incident are still under investigation we would like to remind the public that firearms should always be handled in a safe manner and even a momentary lapse of this can lead to serious injury or death.
