Operation Kelburn: Police release identikit image in relation to Easter attacks
Friday, 2 May 2014 - 4:02pm
Wellington Police investigating two sexually motivated attacks over the Easter Weekend in the area around the Boyd-Wilson field can now release an identikit image of a person they believe is responsible.
Detective Miriam Reddington says "In anticipation of students and local residents returning from the Easter break we are releasing an identikit image of the person we believe is linked to these two attacks."
"It is clear that the offender is familiar with the area by the locations where the attacks have taken place and the routes used by the offender to flee the scene."
"Police are interested in hearing from anyone who has any information that might confirm the identity of the person shown in the identikit in the picture."
"For local residents or people walking through the area I want to reassure them that they don't need to be overly fearful. There have been no further attacks reported to Police since the Easter weekend. I would encourage anyone to heading out at night to make a plan to get home safely, not walk alone and to stick to well lit areas."
Police are continuing to work with the Wellington City Council and Victoria University on extra foot patrols in the area, improved lighting and increased CCTV coverage.
Anyone with any information should contact Wellington Police on (04) 381 2000. Information can also be provided anonymously to the Crimestoppers organisation on 0800 555 111.
