Woman dies in North Canterbury crash
Police have confirmed that a female motorist has died in a single vehicle crash on South Eyre Road, near Kaiapoi, this morning.
The crash was reported to Police by a passing motorist at 8.20am today.
Initial enquiries indicate that the woman was driving east on South Eyre Road, between Burgesses Road and Mabers Road, when she lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the centre line and hit a tree on the other side of the road.
No other vehicles were involved. The woman, who was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.
Road conditions at the time were dry and the weather was sunny. The Police serious crash unit is attending the incident and a crash investigation is under way.
Road closures have been set up in the vicinity of the crash and are expected to remain in place until late morning.
No further information on the victim is available at this stage.
