Police continue search for suspect
Auckland City, 24 April 2014 - Police advise friends, family and associates of Brett Makiri to ensure they do not
unnecessarily get caught up in an investigation by assisting him to flee from Police.
Mr Makiri escaped from Police custody while in an interview room yesterday afternoon only hours after his capture. He
was to be charged in relation to the kidnapping and assault of a 29 year old woman.
“The search for Mr Makiri has been underway from the moment he escaped custody at the Auckland Central Police Station,”
says Detective Senior Sergeant John Sutton of Auckland Central Police. “We advise associates of Brett Makiri not to
assist him to hide or flee from Police. Anyone who does so may face charges themselves.”
Mr Makiri is considered dangerous and should not be approached. It is possible that he will have changed clothes since
yesterday, when he was wearing a dark t-shirt, knee length shorts and white shoes.
He has associates throughout Auckland and could be hitch hiking.
“It is essential that we catch up with Mr Makiri as soon as possible and we will be deploying all available resource for
the search. His arrest is a priority,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Sutton.
Police have put measures in place to ensure the safety of the woman who invoved in the initial kidnapping.
Police ask that anyone who sees Mr Makiri call 111 immediately and do not put themselves in danger by assisting him.
