Death of 5 year old boy in driveway accident
A 5 year old boy has died at a property in Pokeno, south of Auckland.
Emergency services were called just after 4:00pm yesterday (Tuesday) but the boy was unable to be revived and passed away at the scene.
It is the second fatal incident involving a child in Counties Manukau District in only two weeks, following the death of a 2 year old in Papatoetoe on 9 April, and the second incident involving a child and a trailer. A 9 year old boy received injuries after slipping under a trailer in Takanini on 12 April.
In yesterday's incident, is understood the boy and a sibling were riding on the trailer, which was carrying a small digger and being towed by a 4X4 vehicle.
The Serious Crash Unit and Police photography were called to the scene and the incident will be investigated.
“This is an incredibly tragic scene for everyone involved,” says Inspector Neil Fisher, Counties Manukau Road Policing Manager. “It will take some time to establish exactly what happened and we won’t be able to comment on the cause of the crash until the investigation has progressed. In the meantime we will do everything we can to support the family.”
