Easter Holiday Road Policing
Police are pleased to report that there were no fatal or serious injury crashes on Northland roads this Easter.
From 4pm on Thursday April 17 to 7am this morning (April 22) there were 24 vehicle crashes on Northland roads, but all
were minor.
Police also received 102 *555 calls and attended more than 50 percent of the calls.
Northland Road Policing Manager Inspector Murray Hodson says it is pleasing to see that the public are reporting poor
driver behaviour and it means that police can deal to a situation before someone gets hurt or killed.
Mr Hodson says Northland staff contributed to a successful holiday weekend in terms of road policing.
"Many of our staff were patrolling high risk areas of the state highway network to keep motorists safe. They were
assisted by a highway patrol group from Waitematä Police District, including a motorcycle officer, and a traffic alcohol
group from Auckland.
The motoring public was well behaved in what was a very busy weekend on the road. They showed patience and understanding
when travelling in high volumes of traffic."
However, Mr Hodson says there were still a few motorists who were stopped for speeding even though they knew the 4km/h
tolerance was in place.
"Some of them were travelling at very high speeds, particularly on passing lanes."
Mr Hodson reminds the public that the 4km/h tolerance is in place until 6am on Monday April 28 to cover an extended
holiday period that includes Anzac Day.
"Police will still be out in force in the high risk areas and expect motorists to continue driving safely, so we don't
have any fatal or serious injury crashes."
