Hop along to Frog Fun Day
Leap into loads of fun at Warkworth’s Lucy Moore Memorial Park at a special event to mark international ‘Save The Frogs Day’.
Popular children’s entertainer Suzy Cato and Otago University frog expert Phil Bishop will be at Auckland Council’s Frog Fun Day this Saturday 26 April, 10am – 2pm. This is a great free family day of frog education and conservation for locals or anyone passing through over the holiday weekend.
Council’s Environmental Services Manager Gael Ogilvy says it’s important for people to understand how vital frogs are to our local ecosystem as they are very sensitive to their surroundings and are a good measure of a healthy stream.
“Due to this sensitivity frogs are also prone to diseases so we must look after them.
“Events like this are important for raising awareness in our communities about the special creatures in our backyards and learning how we can help them survive and flourish in their natural habitat,” she says.
Suzy Cato will be at the event helping out with face-painting, storytelling and lots of other family friendly activities. Frogman Phil Bishop will be bringing several frog species along to look at and talking about current New Zealand frog research.
“We’re hoping that everyone visiting Frog Fun Day walks away feeling inspired to do something to improve their local environment – even if they think what they’re doing is small, it all adds up to create good conservation outcomes.”
