Firearms Incident at Makara Beach
Wellington Police are currently investigating a firearms incident that has occurred at Makara Beach this morning.
At 5.15am this morning, police were advised that a man with gunshot wounds required assistance. Police and Ambulance attended and the man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Police have now cordoned off part of the Makara Beach while a scene examination is carried out. It is hoped to have the beach fully open by mid afternoon.
Police would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident.
As the investigation is in the early stages, there will be no further comment at this point.
