Severe Weather Warning in Thames Coromandel
Heavy rain and winds continue to batter the Coromandel. At this stage no severe flooding or slips have been reported. The situation so far:
• Lees road Hahei - one lane blocked about 100M past 335 Lees road.
• Settlement Rd closed from Hikuai to Pauanui due to high tides. passable in a 4WD but not a car.
• We have also had tweets from the public around slips at the Tapu-Coroglen road (8km from Tapu). Passable in a 4WD but not a car.
• High tides mean the road from Coroglen to Whitianga is closed. Once the tides recede we expect the road to be re -opened this afternoon. Thames Coast Rd is open.
• Wade Road, Whitianga will be closed between its' intersections with SH 25 (Tairua /Whitianga Road) and Opitonui Road due to flooding.
Low tide is around 2.30pm this afternoon so we hope flooding may recede around then to allow children to get home from school.
