Police Officer Assaulted

At about 00.15am, police responded to a report of a large number of people fighting in the Glen Innes town centre.
A sole police officer was the first to arrive and he was surrounded then assaulted by a number of offenders on the forecourt of the Mobil service station on Apirana Avenue.
The exact circumstances surrounding the assault are still under investigation.
The officer received a laceration to the back of his head and was admitted to hospital with status 2 injuries.
Two males have been located and are assisting Police with their enquiries.
