Christchurch Multiple Birth Club Members meet Royalty
By Tracey Warren 15 April 2014
Christchurch, NZ – “Wow this looks daunting, please do not ask me to babysit” stated Prince William when he meet five of our wonderful members and their fraternal twins this week in Christchurch. William also asked if the sets where identical, which was quite funny for a few of the mums who had boy/girl sets. The make-up of fraternal sets goes; 4 sets of boy/girl twins and 1 set boy/boy.
Jen Howell, one of our members has said of the meeting “It felt surreal to meet them, an absolute once in a lifetime moment. We were all shaking with excitement when we were asked to come thru the cordon. Totally unexpected, but also amazing!” Jen also said “We worried about having dressed for comfort and warmth as we didnt expect to meet them like that!”. The ladies also sang the praises of our royals saying “They are very elegant, Kate is so slim and tall, and strikingly beautiful. And the ring … whoa .. huge!”
Kate commented to the ladies, on how chilled out the twins seemed and she and Will might need some tips for George, “he is so busy”.
The royal couple asked the twins ages and acknowledged them all; Kate even crouched down to wiggle a few of the pram toys for the twins.
Jodie Gould, said she was still shaking five minutes after speaking to the royal couple. She described our royals as “incredibly down to earth and genuine”.
All the ladies who meet Prince William and Princess Kate are members of our Christchurch Multiple Birth Club. Established over 37 years ago the Christchurch Multiple Birth Club (CMBC) started as a coffee group, 4 families with twins. The once small coffee group has now grown to an extraordinary 304 members, making the CMBC the largest local multiple birth club in New Zealand to date. CMBC are followed closely by both the Auckland Central Multiple Birth Club with 260 members and North Shore Multiple Birth Club with 211 members.
Pre the Christchurch Quakes the CMBC supported 250 families which then dropped to under 200 with many families relocating outside of the quake zones. However, in the last couple of years and particularly the last year, the club has seen a steady increase in parents looking for support and joining or re-joining. Katrina Moor, the Club President has said “A lot of families are moving back to Christchurch as well as new multiple births in the region. It is heart-warming to know we are supporting such a large number of families.”
