Two seriously injured after fleeing police pursuit
At around 11pm on Sunday night Police received a call from a member of the public about a car in Devonport with
occupants who were acting suspiciously. Police checks revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen.
Shortly after, Police received a report of an aggravated robbery of a person walking in a cemetery. The cemetery was
very near to where the stolen car had just been seen in Devonport. The victim had been assaulted and had items stolen
from them.
Police units arrived and located the stolen vehicle with four people inside, the four occupants told Police that the
driver of the car had fled and was armed with a firearm and a knife.
At 11.45pm Police received a report that another person had been assaulted with a weapon in nearby Clarence Street,
Devonport and the offender had stolen his car.
Fifteen minutes later an aggravated robbery was reported at the Glenfield McDonalds. Two offenders stole a handbag and
fled in a vehicle matching the description of the car that had just been stolen.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle around the Albany Highway & Upper Harbour Highway intersection, however the driver failed to stop.
At 12.35am a pursuit was initiated. The stolen vehicle continued to flee and drove at high speeds along the motorway
towards Auckland city.
The vehicle crashed at the intersection of Nelson and Fanshawe Streets.
The two occupants of the car, who are both male and at this time are believed to be aged around 18-20 years old, were
both taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The four people found inside the first stolen car in Devonport are assisting Police with enquiries.
At this stage the exact details of the injuries the victims of the 3 aggravated robberies received are not known,
however none are believed to be seriously injured.
The CIB are investigating and are being assisted by the Serious Crash Unit.
The IPCA will also be advised.
