Pacific people – your City Council needs you
Pacific people who live in Wellington City are encouraged to come out and vote in the election for the City Council’s
Pacific Advisory Group, to be held this coming Monday 14 April.
The group represents the views of Pacific people and works closely with the Council to promote access to Council
services, improve the Council’s communications with Pacific communities and increase their involvement in the city.
At the close of nominations for the three-yearly election, the Council had received nominations from five of the seven
Pacific nation groups represented on the group: Cook Islands, Fiji, Samoa, Tokelau and Tonga. No nominations were
received from the Niuean and Tuvaluan communities.
Voting for the Samoan, Fijian and Cook Islands seats takes place on Monday 14 April at 6.45pm (6pm for refreshments) in
the Lion Harbourview Lounge, Michael Fowler Centre, Wakefield Street, Wellington.
With only two nominations for Tonga and one for Tokelau, these candidates will be declared elected unopposed. A further
election will be required to fill any vacancies.
Voters must be of Pacific Island descent, be enrolled on the Parliamentary Electoral Roll and live in the Wellington
City Council area. They can only vote for one nation’s representatives even if they have ancestry from more than one
Pacific Island nation and even if they hold dual (or more) passports.
