Steer clear of Taranaki Street this weekend
Motorists are urged to avoid lower Taranaki Street – between Wakefield Street and Manners Street-Courtenay Place – this weekend (12-13 April) while a tower crane is removed from a construction site.
The section of roadway will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 4am on Saturday – weather permitting - so a 350-tonne mobile crane has room to remove the tower crane from the Elevate apartments site near the Wakefield Street intersection.
In the event of windy weather on Saturday, the operation will start at 4am on Sunday.
Motorists seeking to avoid delays while getting across town should steer clear of Taranaki Street.
