Cyclist killed in road crash
A cyclist was killed in a collision involving a semi-trailer truck on Summerhill Drive, Palmerston North, just after 7am this morning.
Both the cyclist and truck were travelling up the Drive when the collision occurred.
The female cyclist aged in her early 50s died at the scene.
Police are speaking to the truck driver who did not sustain any injuries but is shaken from the crash.
“We are still in the process of piecing together what factors have led to the crash and it is too early at this stage to comment on any potential charges.
“The Serious Crash Unit is investigating and officers are continuing to make inquiries and speak to witnesses,” says Acting Detective Sergeant Shelley Ross of the Manawatu CIB.
Police will not release any further details about the woman until her next of kin has been informed.
