Man to face charges over murder, tourist attacks
Christchurch Police have confirmed this morning that a man is to face charges over the death of Christchurch woman Amy Farrall, and alleged attacks on two tourists on the West Coast last weekend.
A 38-year Otaki man will appear at a bedside court hearing in Christchurch Hospital at 2.15pm this afternoon.
Detective Senior Sergeant Darryl Sweeney says the man will be charged with murder and sexual violation in relation to the Christchurch incident.
In relation to the West Coast incident he will face one charge of aggravated robbery, one charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and charges of failing to stop and reckless driving.
He was interviewed by Police investigators yesterday.
Other updates:
• The two female tourists involved in the West Coast incident remain in Christchurch Hospital in a stable condition.
• Forensic examination at the homicide victim's Wildberry Street address is expected to continue through the rest of this week.
• Police are also conducting area enquiries in the vicinity of the address to talk to neighbours and nearby residents.
• The post-mortem examination was concluded late yesterday. Police will not be discussing the findings.
• Forensic examinations of the two motor vehicles of interest are also continuing this week.
